Our mission

The web is heavier than it has ever been. The median web page now ships more than 2MB of images, and most of that weight is completely avoidable. Yet the tools that fix this problem too often demand an account, a paid subscription, or that you hand over your private photos to an unknown server in another country.

We built CompressPix to make professional-grade image compression accessible to everyone, with no friction and no compromises. One click, no signup, nothing leaves your device — just smaller, sharper images.

How it works

Our compressor runs entirely on your device using modern WebAssembly encoders inside a Web Worker. When you drop a JPG, PNG or WebP into CompressPix, it is processed in memory by the same class of encoders (MozJPEG, OxiPNG, libwebp) used by the world's largest image pipelines — then handed straight back to you for download. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is logged, nothing is stored.

Under the hood, the app loads the WASM encoder once and reuses it across every image in your batch. That means even compressing ten 5MB photos at once takes only a few seconds on a modest laptop — and it works offline once the page has loaded. There is no queue, no progress bar, and no waiting for an upload to finish on a hotel Wi-Fi.

Our privacy commitment

Privacy is not a feature for us — it is the architecture. Most online compressors are thin wrappers around a backend that receives, processes and stores your files. CompressPix has no such backend for your images. We literally cannot see them, even if we wanted to.

• No uploads. Every byte of every image stays in your browser tab. You can verify this by opening DevTools → Network and watching: zero outbound traffic while compressing.
• No accounts, no tracking pixels on your files. We don't need to know who you are to shrink a PNG.
• No metadata harvesting. EXIF data (including GPS coordinates) is stripped during compression by default, so sensitive location data never leaks into your published images.
• GDPR & HIPAA friendly. Because no personal data ever leaves your device, CompressPix is safe for client NDAs, healthcare, legal and government workflows.
• Works offline. Once the page is loaded, you can disconnect from the internet completely and keep compressing.

CompressPix is built and maintained by a small, independent team of web performance engineers and designers based in the UK. We've spent years optimizing media pipelines for publishers, e-commerce stores and SaaS products — fixing the same compression problem over and over again, behind paywalls and login screens. We built CompressPix to put those same tools directly in your hands, for free, with no strings attached.

The project is funded by unobtrusive display advertising on the page (never inside your downloads). That keeps the core tool free, private and signup-free for everyone — from indie bloggers to Fortune 500 design teams.
